Martin 1951 5-18 (Terz) Guitar with soft shell case

A 5-18 model is a smaller size and scale guitar that is tuned a minor 3rd higher than a traditional full sized acoustic. Low to High G-C-F-Bb-D-G. This type of guitar dates back to before C F Martin immigrated to the USA in 1833 when the Terz guitar as it was called, was fashionable in Europe. Many duets were written for a Terz and Standard guitar at that time.

Move forward to the mid 1900's and Marty Robbins was a main stream Country Western artist who played one much of the time on stage. Many of his performances of him playing a Martin 5-18 can be seen on YouTube. Martin offered the 5-18 from the late 1800's to 1989 in their catalog.
